Pack of Cards
Sometimes I find it hard to get out of my head when I'm zoomed in too much. Visualizations are often helpful in these situations. Recently I've found a very powerful visual metaphor that has helped me zoom out.
I call it "life is a pack of cards". Imagine each day is a card to flip over. The card "pack" represents your life, and each "card" represents each day. Living your life looks like flipping over cards in the deck, day by day.
There are a couple interesting properties to this system:
- Previous cards affect future cards
- There's randomness on each card flip
- The pack has a limited number of cards
- You can't go back to previous cards
This system helps me focus on what's important and make good decisions. Also, I should appreciate each day more because once a card is flipped over, I can't come back to it.
